A general analysis of the patient\u2019s nose and face is performed during consultation, involving an assessment of profile and tip deflection, examination of possible curvature of the nose axis, assessment of the nose width, and evaluation of the lips-nose and the nasal-frontal angles.<\/p>\n
For the optimum surgery result the patient\u2019s and the surgeon\u2019s uniform understanding of the expected post-operative outcome is essential. The consultation includes digital photography and computer simulation of the expected surgery results, assessment of the respiratory history, and examination of the nasal passages.<\/p>\n
Surgery<\/strong><\/p>\n Closed and open rhinoplasty is possible.<\/p>\n A surgery performed through incisions inside the nasal mucosa (Fig. 1) is referred to as a closed rhinoplasty. In the event of an open rhinoplasty, an additional incision in the nasal septum is made.<\/p>\n During the surgery, corrections are made to the cartilage tip of the nose or the bone-cartilage nose deformity, and, if necessary, the nasal axis curvature.<\/p>\n At the end of the operation, incisions are sutured and special splints and patches are applied, which maintain the desired shape of the nose until the bone heals back.<\/p>\n Surgery risk<\/strong><\/p>\n Like any intervention, correction of the nose may have undesirable effects, such as reaction to anaesthesia, eye irritation, postoperative pain or wound infection. You can discuss possible complications or other adverse reactions with the plastic surgeon during the consultation.<\/p>\n Postoperative period<\/strong><\/p>\n Healing usually lasts for several weeks, but the splint is removed after a week. After a week, the surgical sutures of the nasal septum are also removed. Bruising persists for about 2 weeks and swelling remains for a little longer. Nasal trauma should be avoided for 3 to 4 months, but physical activity is allowed 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery.
